Perbandingan Efektivitas Obat Kumur yang Mengandung Chlorhexidine dengan Povidone Iodine terhadap Streptococcus

Penyakit gigi menempati urutan ke-6 dari keluhan masyarakat atau 5.21% dari 25.13% masyarakat yang mengeluh sakit gigi. Hasil Survei Kesehatan Nasional 1995, mendapatkan 90% rumah tangga memiliki sikat gigi sehingga dapat diasumsikan bahwa masyarakat sadar akan pentingnya kesehatan gigi, tetapi tidak diimbangi dengan pengetahuan yang cukup dalam pemeliharaanya, sehingga perlu cara lain untuk mengontrol plak yaitu dengan obat kumur. Streptococcus mutans adalah bakteri yang banyak ditemukan dalam rongga mulut. Sifat anti bakteri obat kumur terutama ditentukan oleh bahan aktif yang terkandung di dalamnya seperti Chlorhexidine dan Povidone iodine. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah membandingkan efektivitas obat kumur Chlorhexidine dan Povidone iodine terhadap Streptococcus mutans. Penelitian ini berjenis eksperimental dengan rancangan penelitian true experiment dengan post test only with control group design dengan jumlah sampel 16 kali pengulangan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan pengukuran diameter zona hambat (halo) sekitar cakram. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan rerata zona hambat sediaan chlorhexidine adalah 19,4 mm, dan povidone iodine adalah 7,6 mm. Dari hasil pengukuran zona hambat, sediaan yang membentuk zona hambat rata-rata paling besar adalah sediaan obat kumur yang mengandung clorhexidine.

Abstract
Dental disease ranks 6th of public complaints or 5.21% from 25.13% of the people who complained of a toothache. National Health Survey, 1995, get 90% of households have a toothbrush so that it can be assumed that the public are aware of the importance of dental health, but not balanced with sufficient knowledge in caretaker, therefore it needs another way to control plaque mouthwash. Mouthwash is a solution or liquid used to help provide freshness in the oral cavity and clean the mouth of plaque and organisms that cause disease in the oral cavity. Streptococcus mutans is one of the microorganisms that are found in the oral cavity is a major cause of oral diseases. Antibacterial mouthwash is mainly determined by the active ingredients contained in them such as Chlorhexidine and Povidone iodine.The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of Chlorhexidine mouthwash and Povidone iodine against Streptococcus mutans. Experimental research of this type with the study design True Experiment with Posttest Only Control Group Design with a sample of 16 repetitions. Data collection is done by measuring the diameter of inhibition zone ( halo ) around the discs. The results of this study showed an average inhibition zone Chlorhexidine preparation is 19.4 mm, and povidone iodine was 7.6 mm. Judging from the results of inhibition zone measurement, stocks that make up the average zone of inhibition is greatest mouthwash preparations containing clorhexidine.
